The palate is harmonious straight from the off, replete with filigree tannins, well-judged acidity and a tense, rocky, structured finish that lingers long in the mouth. This will deserve several years aging - one of Bertrand and Denis's best contributions to the vintage.\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eBertrand Chevillon was “en forme” when I visited him at his domaine in the suburbs of Nuits Saint Georges. Unlike last year, when I was simply unable to locate his winery, this time I was punctual and received no reprimand. He enthused about his 2013 for good reason because he, together with his brother Denis, produced a clutch of great wines in this challenging vintage. Just like elsewhere, his old vines suffered more than the younger and in the worst affected parcels he lost around 40% of the crop due to poor flowering. He picked October 3-11 and matured his premier crus in around 30% new wood, due to be bottled in April 2015. I felt that these wines were nimble, bright and tensile. More linear than the 2012s last year, they appear to be born with plenty of energy and animation, each expressing their terroirs with style. There is clearly good extraction here, but there is no astringency. It just lacks a little persistence on the finish, eschewing that peacock's tail that would have completed the wine. The 2020 vintage has turned out very well indeed at Domaine Robert Chevillon. With finished alcohols around 13.7% to 13.9%, these are deep and powerful wines that remain nicely balanced, and they're built to age. Indeed, in their vibrant, concentrated style, they remind me somewhat of the domaine's 2016s, something one wouldn't have thought possible on paper. The bad news is that yields were down, the Chevillon brothers having lost the equivalent of one entire harvest over the course of the 2019, 2020 and 2021 vintages. As I've written before, this is one of my favorite addresses in all of Burgundy.
